I have a spontaneous approach to painting. Large-scale square canvasses are attacked with colour- my concern being purely visual. A wide pallet is applied freely, the reaction between shades giving my work movement. Energetic un-representational marks breakdown the space. My main medium is acrylic, I also use oil and more recently collage, as it allows instant application. The canvas is loaded up with layers; these are removed and rebuilt allowing the viewer to glimpse the various coats of paint. Stylistically my painting has drawn comparisons to Fiona Rae however her application of paint is highly controlled, an opposite approach to my impulsive compositions.
