Hayley Goodsell

I am a photographer, writer, sound and filmmaker and self-confessed collector. My work explores the tenuous links between various aspects of everyday people and their lives. Concerning myself with taking note of the people and places around me, I aim document humorous, intimate everyday scenarios that anyone can take part in, or empathise with. From taking a seemingly harmless act of finding a diary on the street that evolved into a two month long investigation into the owner, or calling an adult phone line just for a chat, I like to create an active experience: viewers have to move around, through or into my installations to see them entirely, and to determine whether what they are seeing is a secret that they have stumbled across, or whether it is a façade.

Through my meetings with strangers I formalise biographical experiences that lead me to collaborate with the people I encounter, creating a link between myself and everyone I come across, preserving the brief moment that we have shared.

My first short film ‘Home Town – Friday Night in Haverhill’ was screened in June 2008 at ArtConnexion, Lille, France as part of the ‘Fever’ season, in association with Saison Video.
